NASA's Involvement
The NASA Science Mission Directorate (SMD) created this educational opporrtunity that allows undergraduates from all disciplines to participate in hands-on project. This opportunity promotes students' development of technical and project management skills throughout the two-year period of the project. Each participating higher education or institutions will accomplish this by flying payloads pertaining to NASA's objectives using weather balloons, rockets, CubeSats, and other sub-orbital platforms.
"Through USIP, NASA continues its tradition of investing in U.S. education, offering real-world experiences, with the goal of developing students’ skills and capabilities in science, technology, engineering and math – skills critical to building a robust, STEM-literate workforce and achieving the nation's exploration goals." - NASA |
