Hey guys, We're now counting down to three weeks before the start of our campaign. Fortunately we got things going, especially with the wooden crates retrieved from Energy Research Parks' warehouse (many thanks to Elizabeth for that!) and travel requests being processed by the department. In the meantime, make claims for the issued winter gears (parkas, pants and boots) from 528 if you haven't done so. Most of us did it by the end of the meeting and we went with a "first come, first serve" basis. We went through the safety lecture today on how to protect yourself from the frigid weather at Alaska. Check out the following for more thorough discussion during the meeting. Status Updates:
-Retrieved the wooden crates from ERP on Wednesday. -Travel requests are being processed Finalizing plane tickets on Monday or Tuesday. Those who haven't forwarded me the following info need to do so for the above, please do so a sap Name, UH ID, UH email, phone number, Emergency contact name and phone number. Check again with your professors about the trip, as a friendly reminder. -APRS unit will be purchased from Tracksoar instead of from Dr. Longmier. Telemetry and Navigation team those who can help in that category, please check the readiness and functionality of the available SPOT and iMet Radiosondes. ------- Shipment: -George started the overall shipment inventory. Progress ongoing Thus far we are only needing batteries, but will double check on that. -Plan to gather things for shipment starting Wednesday of this week. Will coordinate with NSM office on shipping schedule for the crates and chests. This time around, we will ship our survival bags with the crates so it won't be a hassle to carry onboard the plane. Extra layers of clothing, first aid kit, gloves, cutting utensils, etc. We have the first aid kits, but at the very least, have those bags + items in lab starting this coming Wednesday. ------- Comment from safety lecture: -Wear layers during the trip. Required materials: Merino wool and Polyester. For extremities, it's preferable to wear the former and layer that with thicker waterproof covers Recommended: ear muffs, beanies o.e. for head wear. And that should cover everything we discussed in this meeting. Thank you all for reading and see you all in the next meeting!
